I just moved into a new house a few weeks ago. It appears it is pre-wired for in ceiling surround sound (2 yamaha speakers, as best I can tell). On the wall where the TV goes there are 5 speaker wires, labeled varying things. Two of them were labeled as yamaha top speakers. I plugged them in, along with all the other cables, and didn't get any sound.
Now, I don't know if this is because the speaker wire is bad (some of the wires had a black residue on them). Or if maybe they aren't hooked up? Or perhaps even the in ceiling speakers don't work. But, I also don't know how the hell to figure this out. My receiver works fine, already tested that. But I can't figure out how to get the yamaha in ceiling speakers down to even see if they are hooked up, nor do I know how to test speaker wire, especially if I don't know if it's connected to anything on the other end.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
