Surround Sound not working in half life 2

I have noticed that i cant get surround sound in any of my source games including the half life 2 episodes counter strike, and day of defeat. This is kindof annoying and i am wondering if there is a fix available for this. I am running vista and im pretty sure that is the culprit, i just need a way to fix it. At this point these are the only games i have that surround sound doesnt work with. Pretty much all of my other games have had patches or are compatible with alchamy or something. I double checked and 5.1 is enable in the creative control panel, the windows control panel, and every where else that it could be enabled. The command given on the support page doesnt work. When i type it in it says "unrecognized command". I even checked the link on that very page that brings you to where you can see a list of known commands, and that wasnt there, which leads me to believe thecommand on the support page doesnt work.

Vista is the culprit.

Can be fixable if you have a Creative soundcard, mainly of the X-Fi version. Google Alchemy.

This is gonna sound like a simple question, but how are you getting audio from your sound card to your speakers?

Oh wait a sec. You get true 5.1 in other games?
Nevermind, its not what I thought.

But please tell us exactly what kind of speakers and sound card you do have, along with driver version if possible.

My sound card is a creative X-Fi Extreme Music. My speakers are logitec X-530 5.1 system. I already have alchemy installed and as i said, it fixed most other games, except for the source games. The driver for the sound card is 6.0.1.1272. And also based on the official list of games supported by Alchemy, it wont do anything for source games.

You can add source games manually. I get surround sound this way in vista for source.

Go to the list and go under S for source.

The only thing you need to change is the name of the game in the reg line. You type the name of the game per its folder in steamapps.

Thanks for the link, but im a bit lost about what exactley im supposed to do. Do i copy and paste all of that but changing the"*"s? If so where do i paste it to.
