Surround Sound in Games

When playing Battlefield 2, or anything else, its never in 5.1. I set sound to high, turn on EAX, but never get anything out of any speakers but front right and front left. I don't want to have to buy a Creative soundcard to get 5.1 out of Battlefield 2.

When you go to "Sounds and Audio Devices" in Control Panel and click on "Advanced" under Speaker Settings, is it on 5.1?

should work as long as you have it set to 5.1 in games and in the control panel unless there is a driver bug. you have the latest nforce drivers I assume?

Yep, nvMIXER automatically changes it to "5.1 surround sound speakers" when you choose "5.1 Speakers (Dolby Digital Live)" in it [nvMIXER].

Yeah, thing is, WHERE do I enable 5.1 in BF2, all I see is the option to change from Software to Hardware rendering, tried both, no difference, quality, and EAX.

Alright, get a load of this sh!t off Creative's website:
With 24 times more power than its predecessor, you'll experience up to 40% more frames per second in games, as tested in Battlefield 2?. And, you'll hear 9 virtual speakers delivered over standard stereo headphones, and 128 virtual speakers with 5.1 or 7.1 speaker systems for lightning-fast gaming and immersive audio - all at the same time!

What if I just want to fvcking hear 5.1 sound in a game without having to pay out the ass for one of your soundcards, hmm?

You could hook your motherboard up via analog connections and see if that works...

I assume your Soundstorm is working for other games? Also, you will probably want to make sure EAX is off

I've never really thought about 5.1 in other games before. I have EAX on, I'll try with EAX off, quality set to high, and Hardware rendering and see if I get sound out of the center, rear, or sub.
EDIT: No reason analog would work any different cause all DDL does is take whatever would've been sent out over the minijacks, encode it in 5.1 DD, and send it out over SPDIF. If I had it outputting over analog the Z5500s would probably end up going Pro-Logic or clone to rear on me, and I want native 5.1.

Yes I know what DDL does, all I am saying is in an attempt to troubleshoot. Maybe something is incompatible with soundstorm...

Anyway, turn off EAX and see what happens, and then try a different game and see if you get anything

Bah, tomorrow, I'm too sleepy, that caffiene is starting to wear off, thanks for the help though, EAX may very well be screwing everything up.
