Surround Sound & Computer Desks?

I'm trying to decide how to set up my recent computer (and am buying a new desk and chair). I have a low-mid quality 5.1 speaker system (X-530).

Do you guys find that surround sound requires an L-shaped desk? So, you would essentially put your monitor at the corner of the "L", two speakers next on the immediate right and left -- and the remaining two speakers on the corners of the desk behind you.

What other setups work for you?

That would certainly work.

Some other options would be putting them on stands behind you... or mounting them to walls in back of you.... or putting them on furnature or windowsills etc. around the room.

If you can get the surrounds to the side of you or behind you, it helps a lot.
