From various threads you can probably guess i built a new system (amd 3700sd x1800xt). This system 3dmark2003 score was 17175.

My old sys (2.4ghz th, 9800pro) had a score of around 5517. When I set out I wanted to build a new sys for less than $1000 (I spent 1170) that was good enough for todays games.

I am a bit disappointed this system is only 3x faster. Had hoped for 4x :)

Are these results expected ?

its cpu limited. try compairing 3dmark05 scores. My 9800pro scored about 2300 3dmark05 (system overall just sucked and I think the power supply was bageling its results <.<) my 7900gt is getting over 11000 (overclocked and volt modded but completly cool and stable) and your x1800xt should be cooking at around 9,000. I think you will more than triple your results with 05

I'm confused by Arakane13131 commnts. He is getting 11000 in 3dmrk03 volt moded i'm getting 17000 non overclocked. I thought the 7900gt was about the same as the x1800xt.

You can't compare your 3D Mark 03 scores to his 3D Mark 05 score....... you'd get around 9000~.

possibly more if he overlclocks his CPU

i gained a good chunk just by going from 2000 to 2500mhz.

Ok thanks. The 3dmark05 values were 9309 (this is without oc'ing the video card). I'll check the old system tonight. I have to do something productive now else i'll spend all day running benchmarks/tweaking. Hum so he's getting 20% more with oc. I presume 20% oc on x1800xt can be done using stock cooler?

Wow the old system only gets 2748 on 3dmark05. I guess 3dmark05 is more graphic intensive or uses more advance features like aa ? Hum oh well it is a start!

see told ya!

edit: you shouldnt expect a 20% gain by OCing your card. mine went from 9000-11000 but I volt modded the card and overclocked it literally a hundred+ mhz on the core and several literal hundreds on the memory. (stock is 450mhz... mine came factory overclocked at 550mhz.. now its 680mhz core... the memory comes stock at 1300. mine came at 1580... and now its 1900)

i think you will perhaps get to 10,000 but i dont see it going higher unless extreme measures are taken.
mine only gets such a huge boost because the 7900gt's are famous for their overclocking.
Dont attempt to overclock your x1800xt in such a way. you will destroy it.

Well hump. While the risk might be very small i hardly see the reason to take the risk going from 9300 to 1000. That is less than 10%. Might as well just run it @ stock and enjoy it. If it can handle the game @ 1600x1200 great if not i can run it @ 800x600 with full settings ( mon is 16x12 lcd).

Anyways this will do for now - in 2 years i'll probably need to upgrade to am2 (or 3 or whatever) and dx10 or dx11 or whatever. bleh. The hardest part is picking a new case.

Wait. 9309/2748 is 3.4 and 17175/5515 is 3.1 - not a big difference between 2001 and 2005 3dmark. Ack. I fooled myself :)

lol though I dont understand much of your logic... that card should be fine at stock settings for 95% of what you will do with it. DX10 cards will be out in about 8 months? then they will need 6 months to mature... (recalls FX series) So odds are your fine for a good while. enjoy your card.

Hehe, my stock X-2 heatsink/fan was ridiculously argumentative...as in.. it just would not not not snap into place... i struggled for 20 minutes with it and almost broke my whole damn mobo.

then i prayed...i said "Yo jesus, can you speak with your dad and ask him to go easy on me with this..and just let it fall into place. please. i dont want to struggle anymore..and your the very definition of grace. thanx." and seriously it snapped right into place the next time i tried.

so i put that in my sig always as reminder.
