Surgery without health insurance?

So I'm currently without health insurance and not making much a year from my current job. I also have been feeling bad quite a bit lately. Self diagnosis makes me think gall bladder problems but perhaps without stones since I don't get the pain really. Its something I've had for years really but has only recently become bad enough to start to become annoying in my life. I'm thinking about going to see a doctor for a real diagnosis but also admit that any diagnosis could likely be costly on its own before surgery. Any idea of the cost of something like a laproscopic gallbladder removal?

Dude - see if you quality for some kind of gov't insurance or something. You're going to be raped.

Do negotiate with the doctor, surgeon, and surgical center. Tell them you don't have insurance. Those prices aren't fixed you know 😉

Hope it all works out for you.

"Hi everybody! I'm Dr. Nick Riviera!"

You don't need surgery.

Look into 'alternative' healthcare and you'll find a cure for less than 10% of what the 'professionals' will charge you and without any butchering of your body.

they charge you 10 bucks for getting you an asperin that give ya a hint?
Public hospitals have charity/poor peeps programs

In indiana you can qualify for hispital care for the indigent if your salary is below a certin level. I had my apendix burst while I was unemployed and the state of indiana payed all the bills and in return take my state tax refunds until they are payed. But I techinically never had to pay them back (they can't sue or put it on my credit). Plus the hospital dropped all of its charges. So my deathbed 250000.00 surgery turned into about 800.00.

Not bad at all.

Oh and I did pay the state back. I took my sweet time, but I always repay my debts.

Go to Thailand or Viet Nam... that's the current rage with elective surgeries, and becoming more common due to huge cost savings.

Assuming no complications, laproscopic gallbladder removal can be performed as a same day procedure - lowering the costs considerably.

If you can pay cash on the spot, many hospitals will accept 50% of the bill - although this varies and you need to make arrangements up front. If you cannot pay cash then I'd apply for financial assistance / payment plan directly with the hospital. Most hospitals are technically "non-profit" & have some form of financial type aid....BTW - lose the self diagnosis and see if there is a free / low cost health clinic in your area.
