I have 16 timeclocks that I need to protect from lightning. Should I get something like a battery back (APC 350VA?) or do I need something more powerful or something different altogether? I don't believe the timeclocks consume very much power.

Update: Each unit costs ~$1300

do they need to be "on" when the power is out?

if yes -> small UPS

if no -> normal surge suppressor, rated for lightning

how much do they cost? (the timeclocks)

a cheap UPS will run you about $35-$50 , so if these "timeclocks" cost ten times that, i would go with a small UPS anyway

What do you mean by 'protect from lightning'?

Keep running in event of a power failure; prevent from being fried in event of a lightning strike (how close would the strike have to be before you'd accept the equipment getting fried?); both?

By protect I mean keep from keep it from getting fried; it doesn't have to be on at all times, it just needs to work at all times there is electricity. But if having a battery backup isn't much for , I would go w/ that option.
