I need a 20 AMP surge protector for the office.
The copier plug is a little different than a normal 3 prong unit.
The wall outlet is such that you can plug in regular 3 prong plugs, like this:
l l
o

and the ones like this:
? l
o

What is that type of plug called and is that soemthign I can get at office depot or what?

A standard 20 amp receptacle has a slot on one side, for devices that require no less than 20 amps, which sounds like that might be the case with your copier.

Check the power requirements on the copier. You should be able to get what you need at Home Depot or a local hardware store. If you're willing to swap out the receptacle.

Cut off 20A plug and put 15A plug on the machine! Ok not recommended but cheap and yes I've seen it done as many times as I've seen ground prongs broken off to get things plugged into old sockets. I've even found an extension cord where someone drilled a hole in the blocking tab so the ground prong could stick through!
