what "size" protector would one need to protect a home theatre system (including a big screen)

i guess what i'm looking for is a joule value?..assuming that that is what they are rated in..

appreciate the help...

I would not worry too much about the Joule Rating. Manufacturers and falsely advertise Joule Ratings buy adding a bunch of crappy FET's to the product and claiming that is is better because of it. Kind of like no name PS makers selling "performance" 550W supplies for $50. It just anint gonna happen.

What you really want to look for is the Underwriters Lab (UL) rating, or if they have one at all. APC (www.apc.com) makes some great products that will suit you. They offer lifetime replacement and a good equipment protection program.

You have to make absolutely sure that all avenues for electricity to enter are guarded (coax cable, RJ11/45, power), for a surge can travel though any one of those routes and cause great harm.
