I have a Motorola V195. From what I was told, I can use it to connect to my laptop and surf the Internet.

How do I go about doing that?

My phone is unlocked and I will be using a network that supports GPRS.

Thanks!

via Bluetooth would work.

Find the phone using bluetooth, set up an internet connection via the phone?

www.howardforums.com may help. (forum or forums, don't remember, can't really check right now)

iPhone doesn't NEED to tether. It's got it's own full featured web browser. Psh v=p

do you have one? I do and its slow as molasses. Yes its wonderful I can browse on the go, but I also have a 3g aircard and a laptop for when I need to do more than check stocks or read a website.

I did this with my LG VX4400 for a while when I moved into my last apartment. If I recall, it required a cable to connect, then setting up the phone to work via DUN as a modem. Just used airtime minutes. Latency was high, but sustained transfer was about 10-12KB/sec.

I've seen it done with a Blackberry, wasn't very fast, but the network in our area is slow as hell.

I tried this a while ago with an older Sony phone and infrared connection to my laptop. It connected fine, but the connection automatically signed me up for some expensive data plan (Cingular). I had to call and bitch to get taken back off the plan. BTW, they had some blocking thing that kept me from using the phone like a normal modem to an ISP. It would only work through their proprietary network. The speed was about the same as dial-up (EDGE network).

Hmmm 3" screen or 14.1" screen... tough call.

I have Alltel and it's a $25/month charge to add unlimited Data minutes for tethering. Then I can configure the connection as a Dial up Connection.

P.S. does your phone have 3g?

Sprint blackberry 8830

just got it last week and use it as a modem as well for the laptop... via bluetooth too!
its not the fastest, but its like a slow DSL line. so im happy since i need to multitask and client sites and sometimes i need to connect to other clients VPN

Sprint don't charge extra for phone as modem usage, unlike Verizon and ATT where you have to pay extra for tethering.
