Surface Pro - Pen + palm play nice together?

I saw a demo video where the user lifted the pen just a little and right afterwards the screen zoomed from his palm interacting with it. Can anyone confirm how it plays out and how far from the screen you can hover the pen?

My local Bestbuy doesn't have the pen with the showpiece and no reviews/articles I found mention this which is weird. I thought of buying it to replace my hefty Lenovo x220 tablet, which I can hover the pen a good distance from the screen and can sketch without any palm interference. If the Surface is too sensitive to the palm contact then I have to skip it.

I tried the pen after asking a Best Buy employee. I only tried to use it to see if it worked with the Corel Painter demo which they allowed me to install. If you ask, I am sure they have the pen for you to use as they don't have a way of tying it down and have to get it out for you to use.

There is palm rejection. I have been using OneNote on the Surface Pro to take notes, and I haven't had to fight with it when using the pen. My palm hasn't been leaving marks on the page at all. It seems to be better than other tablets I have used in the past. So, overall, I'd place the pen rejection at pretty good.
