Surely to God there are not really people like Monk in real life

I used to have tendencies like this, not quite as bad as they portray, but pretty ridiculous.

I've forced myself to stop them over the years with the help of friends

There are certainly people with OCD at or close to the level Monk has it. For my psych class, we had to find a movie clip for different psych disorders that accuratly represented the actual conditions. I'm blanking on my topic, but my movie was A Beautiful Mind. Another goup picked Monk to go with OCD. We both got high marks for accuracy, but she wasn't a fan of the (lack of) creativity in our picks (ie everyone had seen both Monk and A Beautiful Mind).

Monk's OCD isn't even that bad. A lot of OCD people feel the need to repeat certain actions multiple times. Obviously this would make for bad television so conveniently Monk doesn't have that problem.

Like Nicholas Cage's door thing in Matchstick Men.

I have to admit, there are little things in the show that I find myself doing or have done. Obviously not to that level, but when I was younger, I used to count everything. EVERYTHING. And sometimes things would have to be even.

😱
