Maybe they could leave it as it currently is, so you can see everything, but include a special "FS/FT Search" where you could filter the results by country and state.

Um, IMO breaking it up into states wouldn't help. Maybe countys, but breaking it up into states would be a hassle for most. If I don't mind buying something out of state, I have to go into 50 f'ing forums to do a search for what I want.

EDIT: Plus, don't forget about our neighbors, the Canadians.

or make people post their states 2 letter abbreviation and setup a search that way.

id rather do a ftf then go through 1000 posts dailly to find someone locally and ftf hard to troll someone

Would be nice, but not as efficient as you might think. For example, people near Philadelphia might consider parts of NJ and parts of NY as local, but not the other end of PA.
