Nope. I have a regular job. What's funny is that I know of two ways to scam those stores as a seller but would not have thought the person behind the counter would be scamming the owners.

And there's no chance this plan will work unless the owners are brain-dead. There is too much money involved to simply trust new hires to work alone without adequate monitoring. He just doesn't know how it's being done.

How is it scummy? People have a need to sell their gold, someone is willing to buy it. they agree on the prices. This is capitalism and how things have worked for eons in all forms of markets.

Just because it's capitalism doesn't mean it isn't scummy. Those places have a definite porn/pawn shop vibe.

I am not sure so he is doing nothing illegal. I think a case could be made for fraud or possibly even embezzlement. The problem is the company isn't getting its 30%. He is taking the product somewhere else and keeping all the money.

Whether the company would pursue criminal prosecution is another matter entirely.
