Supreme Commander Gold...

dunno.. u got the original one... and forged alliance.... still trying to figure out where to get the patch... or is this like CoH in where the game updates itself....?
 
I have the original and expansion. I dont recall it auto updates. But I never found any game breaking bugs so I never worried about it.

I like the games but they arent the super-RTS revolution I was hoping for.
 
so besides sc what other strategy one is around... for me before this one.... coh was the top.... dunno if this one manages to take its place...

SupCom uses a horrible patching method with their Gas Powered Games utility, forget what its called though.

The version that shipped on the original SupCom/Forged Alliance disks didn't function properly with Vista, but I'd hope they ship a more current version on the Gold edition.
 
pretty graphics - boring game. Not sure why but never had the wow factor that TA had despite the graphics.

Worse the patching system was buggy (even on xp 32 - which is what I use) and support was nil (are they still making patches?)

Yes, they are, though they've wound down since the game's been out for a while. Rumor has it that there is another expansion in the works, but I haven't heard anything official in a while now.
 
Well here's the links to the latest patches... We haven't gotten one in a while, but most people seem to think that THQ's holding this one up.
To auto-update use GPGNet, but that takes forever because GPGNet patches itself too.


Ima assume you have the retail games (3189 and 3596) The version number is in one of the corners of the main menu.

FA patch

You want them because they remove the DRM and fix the balancing (mostly).

The expansion pack is supposedly canned, but Supreme Commander 2 is being published by Square Enix, so I expect something good.
 
Hmm im getting the itch to play this again, it was a pretty cool game. I missed out on TA back in the day because i was too busy trying to stay connected to starcrafts battle.net with my AOL 56k :| piece of garbage.

Hope these patches help performance a bit, when i first played this it wasent too kind to my lappys 8600m GT.

It plays well on my 9600m GT with medium settings at 1280x800, though it does bog down a bit once several AIs max out their unit caps.
