Supposed to be getting 3MBPS, but I get 800kbps?

Verizon sucks big time 🙁. Back when we were paying for 768k we got ~400 to 500k speeds. Now we're paying for 3mbps and we're getting ~800kbps speeds. I've done multiple speed tests, and the average is around 800kbps.

I've had this for a year now, when we first got it we were getting 1.4mbps speeds but slowly it's started deteriorating.

Anyone else with Verizon (FIOS isn't available in our area, yet) have this problem? Really starting to piss me off, and this is totally unacceptable.
 
How far are you from their box or whatever that handles it? If you're far away, you've probably reached a limit of some sort for this much distance.
 
In my area they just dont offer that plan...i mean if its outside of the distance limit...they wouldnt offer it...have you asked yoru neighbors or someone in yoru area what kind of speeds they get? If it deteriorates over time...that makes it sound like something else is wrong...

Sounds wrong though, but I did a tracert (P4-0.LCR-01.BSTNMA.verizon-gni.net )

* Currently, Verizon Online DSL is only available to customers residing within 3 "wire-run" miles (up to 18,000 feet) from their Verizon Central Office.

No one in my area gets the full speed, usually half that speed.

If it deteriorates over time...that makes it sound like something else is wrong...
Probably an oversaturation of users on the verizon network?
 
I dunno, but they're ripping me off. I get 1/3rd of the speed I pay for.

Complaining to Verizon never helps - they forward you to some clueless underpaid idiot who has no clue what they're talking about.
 
My question is why should they offer this service if they KNOW it doesn't work? In oother words, I should be playing for the 768k plan and NOT the 3mbps plan.

tracert can't tell you when it hits the first DSLAM (probably within 3 miles or so), as those generally don't touch the IP signal, they just operate on layer 1 or layer 2. The first tracert hop is the first router it hits.
 
That's exactly why they say "Actual throughput speed will vary" and "Verizon Online DSL packages are always represented as maximum downstream/upstream connection speeds."

Oh and lets not forget this one:
"Speed and uninterrupted use of the service are not guaranteed."
 
I'm in the same boat...

I signed up for Comcast's 8 mbps, and I only average around 1000KB per second on my downloads... 🙁

As stated, You're probably pretty far away from Verizon's CO (Central Office) where all the lines go to. With DSL, speed deteriorates with distance. Nothing you can do about that. It's sucks, but that's just the way it is unless you move or wait for another service to come by.

Oh, and just to rattle your feathers a bit, I'm ordering FIOS tomorrow...
