Ever try to analyze the source of your agitation, optoman. I didn't notice any of 'those' people in this thread.

I'm praying we're saber rattling and if not, which I have always suspected, that there is as little death as possible on both sides. In an insane world, we cannot afford not to have a military. There is real evil in the world. I pray that our military doesn't become a part of it. The capacity to kill millions should never pass into the hands of fools. Power corrupts and absolutely power corrupts absolutly, they say. I don't personally agree, buy bush does not impress me as a profound human being. I see only an immature religious fanatic. Sorry.

As to our military people, I am so sorry they have to die in a war that doesn't have to happen. It's my fault because I could not stop it. All that death is on my hands. Nobody can ever really be happy.

This little dew drop world

It may be only a dew drop

but a dew drop mixed with tears.

I remember laying flowers at a certain grave and stones of the war dead stretching all around as far as the eye could see, thousands and thousands of them on that a day with a perfect sun. If you cannot understand I don't blame you. Such moments don't come or get through to everyone, I guess. I know why, but it makes no difference at all if it doesn't reach you.

If you think you understand you understand nothing at all. The sacred gift of life gets pissed away.

I take this to mean you support the sacrifice the troops make, but not the conflict they are making it for?

I just want a thread were we wish the best for out troops. This isn't about what has happened in the past. This is about now and today.

It's like Geekbabe's thread about her surgery. Everyone comes in and wishes her well. We don't care if she is a good or bad person, we just want for her to get better. Why can't people just suck it up and wish the troops well and not talk about why they are there? Not another word.

There is an interesting thread "on another board" that asks the question --- "Are you a hypocrite if you support the soldiers but not the war?" The main premise of the argument is that it is the soldier, the grunt, pilot, etc., is really the one who decides if a war will go on because ultimately it is his decision to pull the trigger, drop the bomb, fire the missile, etc.
No, you're not.

The soldier cannot disobey orders simply because he or she disagrees with the war. In battle, you can be shot for that.

In order to have a functioning military, you must obey lawful orders, or the whole thing doesn't work. They have put systems into place to make sure that soldiers follow orders.

Had my post meant anything to you, optoman, you would have understood.

Ime, the validity of the conflict is something that every citizen should weigh in on to the best of their ability. The validity of the conflict is everything.

Hop, a soldier can be issued lawful and unlawful orders. He is not relieved of the responsibility not to follow the latter.

Why wouldn't you support the soldiers/sailors/airmen/marines? They are doing thier job in service of the republic on the lawful orders of the commander in chief. I know some will die, and I dearly hope that more will live because of thier actions. That is all thier is to it.

I support our troops 100% and wish them all a safe and speedy return to the U.S.

I support this war 0%, and any U.S. life lost because of it will have been wasted needlessly.

I support the troops fully in whatever happens. They are over there with their arse on the line to help protect the country I live in. I know at least 5 troops that were just sent over there from the local national guard with one of them being a good friends dad.

Here's the thing: Our servicemen and women volunteer to serve their country without reservation and without question when called upon. If they are sent into battle by unscrupulous politicians for dishonorable purposes, the shame and responsibility rests squarely on the shoulders of those politicians, not with our servicemen and women.

If you dislike the war, or the administration who wages it, take it out on them, protest them, organize your opposition against them, vote against them, not our men and women in uniform.

This is a lesson that was utterly and completely lost on Vietnam War protestors, I hope the despicable behavior of that era will not soon be repeated.

My friend in Kuwait writes me. He says he just wants candy, pringles, and porn. I shall help support him and other soldiers around him. Keep morale high, come home a winner, come home safe.

He also says many people there realize its their job, its what they signed up to do.

With all the Pro/Anti Iraq war threads, one point I do not want overlooked...

I think it is great that we all live in a nation that provides us the ability to speak our mind, to support or protest our leaders actions. This is a GOOD thing!

But no matter how you feel about the coming war, Bush, or his policies, please support our men and women in arms. They have taken an oath to defend this nation from all enemies of the United States, and to obey the orders of our Commander In Chief (that would be President Bush).

They have commited themselves to risking their lives so we can all enjoy the ability to sit here and speak our minds. Please support them!!!
