Supply Widescreen to TV

I have my computer to my TC through Svideo. For some reason my TV is dumb and will only support 800x600 and 1024X768 through VGA and won't let me change the aspect ratio.

So I connect through Svideo. What resolution would be supported by Svideo to supply a widescreen picture to my TV?

None.. can you hook it up with VGA and then force higher resolution by checking 'show resolutions this monitor doesn't support' or add 1920x1080/1280x720 HDTV manually?
