Supervisor at work, and other people were talking about my Myspace & Facebook

So my supervisor comes up to me today and says "so what's up with you and college?" or something like that...I ask why she's wondering and she tells me that people were looking at my facebook and my Myspace and were showing it to her...

She then starts talking about me being full of testicular firepower....(A reference to something I wrote on facebook or myspace or something). We both get a laugh out of it, and she says something to the effect of "be careful what you put out on the internet!" I still felt a little weird about it, even if she was friendly about the whole thing.

So does that seem a little odd? I've worked at a lot of places and never had someone look up my facebook or myspace before...How they even found my myspace is beyond me, considering only my direct supervisor knows how to spell my last name....

I kind of want to mess with them now, for the next time they look at either of them..

Why give them something to find in the first place? Nosy co-workers is nothing new - you're just giving them free fodder.

Has our local attention whore showed his supervisor this?

I especially liked the 'Extremely virile sperm count' point on the Health slide.

How is this nosy?

If you put something on the internet that people can see, expect people to see it. It amazes me how many people say something about people stalking their facebook or myspace, but in reality, you're the one who put it online for people to see.

I just think it's odd. What I do on my own time is my own business, as long as I'm not murdering/raping/shooting up/pillaging....I mean I have a friend who's a loan officer, and her main facebook picture is her holding up a funnel for a friend.

I actually agree with that, I can't stand when people talk about being 'stalked' on facebook or myspace...but it just seems odd that it's co-workers, and that they're commenting on it. I dunno, maybe I'm just being touchy.

Yep, it's your own business. So why are you posting it on the internet where anyone can find it? It's a poor move on your part unless you keep them completely professional.

I'm just reminded of that girl who lost her degree because of a halloween costume picture she had up on facebook....

My boss made a comment one day about my Facebook profile (he saw a local politician on my friends list). That was the day I closed my Facebook account.

It's all good here. Our boss has us all as friends on face book, but then again he'd go get sh!t faced 2x a week with the rest of us and was very cool and un boss like.

Hell even competitors have tried to recruit us via facebook. HR didn't like that and probably got the guy sending the PM's in trouble...they made the guy who was approached hand over evidence of them approaching him via facebook. They aren't allowed to do that contractually!

Yeah, that's a good example. I also know that me and my co-workers all check potential new hires out on myspace, google, etc. and weed out the ones with questionable material up.

Plus, being a young professional person I already have to deal with the "kid" image that older co-workers have of me. I'm trying to be taken seriously as an adult, and having profiles like that up online is just like kicking myself in the crotch.

Just stuff to think about. I regularly speak with college students about these issues.

you could also increase privacy settings which is probably what I'm going to do. I don't like making them real strict in case people are looking for me, but I don't want things like people from work checking up on me.

A lot of employers now perform google searches on perspective employees. It's out in the public, so why not find out as much as you can.

Alot of companies will have their HR search for you(if you're a recent college grad) on Facebook and Myspace.

Eh, Facebook is turning into a cesspool just like MySpace. I'd rather just be done with it.

True, I guess I'd do it too if I was an employer, ironically.

I had actually forgotten about my myspace until a day or two ago when someone asked about it. I agree about facebook. I used to like it because they didn't have all the garbage that Myspace had, with the surveys, and 'top friends' and random applications. Now there's even more on facebook than on myspace. I hate it now.

you have your real name on myspace?! WTF?

It is a little weird, but as others have said, you should expect people to see it.

I say it's weird because, I would never look up a co-worker's myspace. I'm just not interested.

Trust me, they have and do. This is just the first time they've said anything to you.
