Superstar or not?

I could not have named a single UFC fighter until I started watching the ultimate fighter less than a year ago. I don't think your definition of superstar is right. That works only in mainstream, popular sports (which I would say are: Boxing, Baseball, football, soccer, basketball, tennis, nascar, golf, cycling?)... (probably forgetting some sports).

The emphasis should be put on "in the US." The UFC fighters are second rate when you go world wide. Superstars? I don't think so, but does it really matter? Do they suck? Yes, they do. And that is the more important question.

What are some of the "first rate" MMA events worldwide? I know that I have seen a lot of japanese fighters get trounced in the UFC despite being supposedly tremendous champions in their local MMA.

PrideFC and K-1, although K-1 is not MMA. If UFC fighters step into the Pride house, they'll get smashed! And if you want to check out PrideFC, the next event is PPV and will be in Las Vegas (first time in the US). Check it out. It looks to be a pretty good card.
