Hello

I was wondering if anyone knew if the Supermicro boards based on i860/E7500/GC Le chipsets support the upcoming 533mhz bus? Or is that change exclusive to the P4? Any ideas or info would be great. Thanks.

The E7500 and GC boards should be ok for 533mhz fsb Xeon's since SuperMicro has said the i860 boards will handle 533mhz fsb Xeon's. Another thing to remember is 400mhz Xeon's will top out a 3GHz+ sometime next year so any SuperMicro dual Xeon board will have a long lifespan.

hmm, would you happen to know if you can change the FSB on one of those boards or would it dependant on processor. I am considering getting a P4DL6 with 1.8 prestonias for a file server. I was curious if I could clock them assuming I got Pc2100 ram? Thanks again.

I actually emailed Supermicro Tech support about it. They say Intel will change the socket pinout (Someone confirm?) and a newchipset is needed?!?!

"Intel will change the pin out of the Xeon for 533MHz system bus, they
will
be 604 pin and require and updated chipset. We will have to make new
product for these processors which Intel is trying to release before
the end
of the year.

That is the email I recied in reply. Can anyone verify this?
