Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 Issue

Has anyone successfully used a Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 in any MB with the extra PCIex16 slots?

For my Norco 4220 server I bought a Foxconn ELA 775 motherboard and planned on adding Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 to the PCIex16 2 and 3 slots as I needed more HDs.

Well the time has come to install the first HD controller, but I'm not having any luck.

I've bought 2 Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 so far and both have been duds. I wouldn't think this is the case, but does anything have to be set in BIOS to get them working or are they basically just plug and play?

I've tried the PCIex16 slot 2 and 3 on both controllers. I can't ever get the supermicro BIOS to appear on boot up and the hardware is not detected by Windows7.

Anyone have experience with this working? I'm wondering if buy.com just keeps selling me DoAs and I need to buy from somewhere else or if there is a problem with my MB.

Thanks

Boot an Ubuntu Linux livecd to see if it is detected.
Your BIOS may not initialize the controller if it does not support interrupt 13 capture feature; allowing PCI-e cards to register as bootable device in the BIOS.

Without that feature, you can not boot from your controller, but it should still work once you loaded your OS (located on normal HDD on the chipset controller, for example).

I haven't been able to find the controller in the Windows 7 device manager. I've looked under Storage Controllers and IDE Controllers. But what are the chances I also received 2 DoA cards. I made sure I was grounded while handling the cards and changing the bracket.

I'll try the Ubuntu disk. But if it is detected by Ubuntu but not in Windows 7, what does this mean for me? That I'm unable to use this controller? Do you think it is because of the MB and if I got a different one then Windows could detect it?

I forgot to mention that I'm pretty sure the x16 slots do work, as I can successfully use a PCIex1 tuner in them.

I found in the manual a couple options in the BIOS I'll give a try when I get home

Northbridge -> PEG: disable
It is meant to activate/deactivate the PCI express graphics port. I may have to reset the CMOS because I do use a PCI express graphics card, but it's worth a shot...

Integrated Peripherals -> Auto detect PCI clock: disable
Maybe the card isn't being detected as installed and so the MB is not providing power. This will force all PCI slots to be given power.

PnP/PCI Config -> PCI IDE Busmaster: enable+
This adds support for IDE mode over PCI.

So I contacted Foxconn and they said a non-graphic device x4 or greater should work in PCIex16 slot1. I moved the video card to slot2 and placed the Supermicro in slot1. It worked. I'm still screwed in that I can only use 1 so when I need more than 14 drives I'll have to buy a new motherboard, but that will probably take years. I'm only at 8 drives right now.
