Superhot FX-55

I finally got the rig running and am on about hour 12 of burn-in.

Everything is stable, but WOW, the CPU runs super-hot. I'm using the stock heatsink that AMD provided for the FX-55, and I sit at 44C idle, but when I loaded up MS Flight Simulator, and turned every feature to Max, ran it at 1600x1200 in SLI mode on 6800 Ultra's with the CPU blowing 100% steadily, I hit 75C!!!

That's not the only odd thing. The motherboard (ASUS A8N SLi Deluxe) doesn't sound an alarm until 83C, and the Asus probe utility on the default setting doesn't worry about it until the processor reaches 77C.

Under regular workload, I pushed the mid 50's most of the day with Cool N' Quiet running.

Now, I looked at the poll and I know that nobody is getting anywhere near these temps. But AMD warranties the thing for 3 years as long as I use their heatsink ... so if it's gonna go, it's gonna go under their radiator.

Does the processor "settle in" a little after a few days of running and start cooling, or ar these likely the temps that I am going to be getting.

Has anyone pushed 70+ on an FX-55 yet? I'm tempted to go an buy one of those spaceship looking kickass coolers, but then I simply void my warrantly on a $900 processor after I have to clean the thermal paste off with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol (which I would prefer not to do). If AMD is happy with the cooler they sent me, i'm assuming they know the tolerance of their silicon or everyone would have an RMA in hand.

These things are sucking 103watts of power, so in theory, they SHOULD run considerably hotter than they lower wattage counterparts. Then again, the heatsink should have dry ice in it if it can't handle these temps.

Comments from any other FX-55 owners? Where are you sitting in your temp range, and how high have you gotten?

I don't have the FX-55, but I've noticed that people that do have it rarely use the stock HSF because it runs so hot. I've noticed that people like to watercool their FX-55 or at least add a good HS like the XP 90/120
