superglue or no superglue

im planning to cut up some heatsinks that i have and use them as ram sinks. i heard ppl have used a dab of superglue in the middle to glue the ramsinks on to the card and some heatsink compound or grease. is this a good idea? will it be able to transfer heat to the ramsinks? if so, is it better to use actual compound or grease? thanks in advance.

Personally, I wouldn't even bother with ramsinks. First, they usually do not increase performance. Second of all, I wouldn't superglue anything to my card. This will void your warranty and if for any reason you have to remove them this could make it difficult.

yeah i for the most part agree with modedpe, but from what i hear you get the best results by putting tiny amounts of superglue around the perimeter of the ram chip then fill the center with thermal compound.

It is not worth spending much for RAM sinks. I got the Coolermaster Aluminium Heatsinks (pack of 8) for £3. It does very little to cool them down, but they look much nicer now.

Tint dots of glue in the corners of the chips, AS for the rest.

iirc, there is also a sticky version of AS.

Yes, there is an AS adhesive. IMO, don't bother with this as the bond becomes permenant althouth it does increase heat transfer. If you are set to use RAMsinks, a ½ drop of superglue on two or four of the corners are sufficient with thermal goo in the middle as tenoc suggested.

I actually did have luck with RAM on my vid card. It didn't let me OC any farther, but did increase stability at my OC'd speed.
