Supercook is an innovative new recipe search engine which finds recipes you can make with the ingredients you currently have at hand. With Supercook, dinner is a few clicks away.
What is different about Supercook?
Supercook returns recipes you can actually make right now with the ingredients you have. It even tells you exactly how many recipes you can make, broken down into 'Starters', 'Entrees' and 'Dessert' categories. With Supercook, finding a great recipe is no longer a hassle, simply put in all the ingredients you have at home and Supercook will instantly provide you with hundreds of recipes that are all within your reach.
How do I add ingredients?
Adding ingredients is easy, simply start typing the name of the ingredient like 'ground beef'. As you begin typing, a drop down list will appear with a list of ingredients, simply click the ingredient you want when you see it. The ingredient will be added to your online kitchen and an updated list of recipes will appear on the right.
How do I delete an ingredient I ran out of?
Click the red 'X' next to the ingredient you want to delete. The recipes on the right will update immediately based on the new information.
How do I save a recipe?
Saving recipes requires you to sign up for an account, its free and easy. After creating your free account, you can click the 'save' button beside any recipe. The recipe will be saved to your account. You can view your saved recipes anytime by going to the "My account" page.
What are 'Recommended' ingredients and how are they calculated?
The list of 'Recommended' ingredients (below 'Your kitchen') is customized for you based on the ingredients you currently have in your kitchen. 'Recommended' ingredients are ingredients which have automatically been determined to pair well with the ingredients in your kitchen. For example, if you add 'lamb steak' to your kitchen, you will see 'rosemary' as one of the 'Recommended' ingredients. In this example, Supercook has automatically figured out that 'lamb' and 'rosemary' have a very strong connection.
Why do some ingredients in the 'Recommended' section have larger fonts?
The font size of each 'Recommended' ingredient reflects the strength of the connection between the ingredient and the current contents of your kitchen. A large font size implies the ingredient has a very strong connection and would add significant value if added to your kitchen.
Can Supercook help me improve my cooking skills?
Yes! Using the 'Recommended' section on supercook, you can instantly find out what flavors go well together. For example, if there was a dish you wanted to improve upon that consisted of 'chicken, ginger and garlic', simply enter those ingredients into 'your kitchen'. Supercook will instantly calculate that the best ingredients to add are 'soy sauce, brown sugar, onion and lemon' and display them under the 'Recommended' ingredients section. By taking the suggestions Supercook offers and adding the 'Recommended' ingredients to your dish, you can quickly learn how to significantly improve your dishes.
Why does the list of 'Recommended' ingredients change when I switch tabs?
The list of 'Recommended' ingredients is uniquely calculated based on the tab you are currently viewing. For example, under the Desserts tab, supercook will logically only recommended ingredients that are common in dessert dishes.
I added 'filet mignon' to my kitchen, but a recipe I clicked on calls for 't-bone steak'. What's going on?
Supercook has a built-in network of food substitutions. In this case, Supercook determined that your 'filet mignon' would be a satisfactory substitution for the 't-bone steak' which the recipe requires. These automatic food substitutions are a unique feature of Supercook.
I definitely want to use oranges in my Entree, how do I tell supercook to display ONLY Entrees that use oranges?
By default, supercook automatically decides which mix of your ingredients to use when building your list of recipe results. However, if you want to override the default behavior and force the use of a certain ingredient, simply locate the ingredient in 'Your kitchen' and click it. Clicking the ingredient will 'toggle' it on and it will be highlighted in green. You can 'toggle' as many ingredients as you like. Supercook will now ONLY display recipes which contain the ingredients you have toggled. To 'un-toggle' an ingredient simply click it again. The green highlight will then be removed. Please note that when toggling ingredients supercook will return a limited number of results.
Are there any default ingredients Supercook assumes everybody has at home?
Yes, Supercook assumes your kitchen at home has salt, pepper, sugar and water. There is no need to add these ingredients to 'your kitchen' on Supercook.
Are the contents of my kitchen on Supercook stored on the server?
If you sign up for a free account, all your ingredients will be saved on the server. If you choose not to sign up for an account, then your ingredients will be lost the next time you clear your cookies on your browser.
Can I access my kitchen on Supercook from any computer?
If you sign up for a free account, you will be able to view 'your kitchen' on Supercook from any computer. Simply log in with your username and password.
