I can't even bare to think of what a competetive opteron or athon64fx(?sledge/clawhammer?) would do to this thing.

What about an IBM Xseries?

How would they stack up?

Obviously 1100 Opteron systems is beyond available manufactures at the moment, so I understand why they went with Apple's ready to go 64bit solution, but once again, how would the other chips stack up.

And as for the IBM clusters:

They do in fact offer opteron blades in cluster configurations up to 512 dual-cpu nodes. How would two of these bad boys stack up? What about their Power 4 series clusters with 64-chip capacities?

Thanks

I read the press release, and it seems they are going for a insane-levels of processing redundancy, but is it really THAT necessary?
