I drove my dads car the other day and I hear this supercharger type whine.

He went to get his oil change done at the dealer( I still need to buy jackstands) today so I told him to bring it up, and of course "could not replicate"

Here is a video of what I am talking about.

The Car is a LS430 which is at 80k almost

Belts were changed at 60k, but I have no idea what It can be. You can hear it best at between 3-4k revs since the engine is not too loud. And you can hear the whining sound inside the cabin of the LS which is supposedly extremely quiet,so I am pretty sure that sound was not there before.

^ hmm, I am not sure, I don't think it was that loud before. I never noticed it whine driving it a few times before. Until the other day.

Belt whine. Sounds perfectly normal to me.

X2...

Might have a bit of alternator whine but is normal for older units... Take the belt off when cold and see if its still there just dont run it for long...

My alternator sounds like that if my battery has been drained pretty hard earlier and it's really trying to charge it.
I wish it always sounded like that. :\

mine had a whine for the last month or so, i figured it was belt wear. turned out to be the tensioner pulley, which melted down on saturday nite. luckily i was a few blocks from home and the belt didnt fall off. it just wore down the pulley and stayed on track. 15 dollar fix. if it sounds like its getting louder at higher RPMs (like mine did), maybe take a look at your pulleys and see if they are ok.

^ I know right lol

I dont remember hearing this at all before. Maybe it was there but definatly could not hear it in the cabin when driving.

Clublexus is useless, when you get to more expensive cars there is less DIY type of people lol which is obvious.

I guess its normal for the age, no idea...

I dunno, they had ~100k on theirs over the years, and it was a pretty quiet vehicle. My brother in law was pretty maintaining it pretty crappily too. lol
