SuperAntiSpyware Slow To Load And Update.

It takes forever to load and another forever to download updates, and both jack CPU usage to 100% and bring everything else to a screeching halt until they complete. Run time is long but tolerable, but the load up and update times are a PITA.

This isn't new. I've been putting up with it because it's supposed to be a good program. It's not just my machine. It's the same on all machines for my friends that uses it.

Win XP Pro SP 3, Norton Antivirus, Comodo firewall, Spybot Search & Destroy. I don't allow the program to load at startup or to scan when first starting Windows or loading, and I have auto updates turned off.

I'm reasonably certain the machine is clean.

Anyone have any info or ideas?

Are you talking about the free on-demand version? If so, it's just slow but it's free. It takes about 5 seconds to load on my machine and longer to update.

You could try MalwareBytes anti-malware as an alternative. I have both SAS and MBAM on-demand versions installed on my machine.

a-squared is another alternative but I think you would need to kill a startup process so it wouldn't load at boot. People report false-positives with A-squared but if you know how to deal with them it not a biggie. It also has the Ikarus AV engine included.

Thanks.

Yes, it's the free version, and I wish it took only five seconds to load. It seems to be a good program. Sometimes, it finds something Spybot misses, and sometimes, it's the other way around so I use both. I just wanted to know if the slowness was common.
