Super Smash Brothers-Unlocking Secret Characters/Levels?

How is this done? I've unlocked one character, jigglypuff, and that was after beating classic mode with link. Since then I've beaten it with a bunch of other characters, but no other secret stuff. How do I unlock more? Thanks!

Are you talking about Smash bros. Melee, or the regular smash bros?

Have fun getting Mr. Game & Watch.........oh, how he brings back the memories. I still have some actual Game and Watch pieces.

The next one you'll probably get is Marth, whom you get by using each character at least one in vs mode and then he challenges you or something. And then, take marth and try to beat adventure mode w/o using a continue and you'll be challenged by Roy. (On the way, you might want to try to end the first stage, Mario's level, when the seconds in the time (xx:x2:xx) is a two, and you should be challenged by Luigi at the end.
