This is for the hardcore smash players

So now that it's been a few weeks (months?) since the game has come out, what do you think of brawl now? Esp. as compared to melee?

My gripes from 4 hours of playing a few weeks ago

- No L cancel
- No air dodging
- Floaty as shit
- Slow as shit

slightly improved.

not nearly as big a jump as n64 to GC but as to be expected with the small hardware upgrade of the wii.

I'm not a hardcore player, but I'm responding anyway.

I like brawl better than melee mainly because of character selection and controller options. although it wasn't nearly as good as it could have been. A online mode even something closer to MK:Wii would have helped a lot. Actually getting rid of the clone characters like they said they were going to would have been nice as well.

Most of the stuff you mentioned doesn't bother me but I did notice it's a bit slower than melee.

 There's still air dodging. It's just different in that you don't lose your jump and it's non-directional.

I think brawl's more fun, I've already played it more than I ever played melee. But maybe I'm not teh hardcorez enough.

What's in brawl isn't air dodging lol

Game comes in the mail tomorrow, so we'll see how I like it after a few weeks.

bought a wii just for brawl, sold the wii a month after brawl's release. Melee was a lot better imo. Shame they couldn't improve upon that instead of steering away from the competitive scene completely.

The nice bit is if you want to play SSBM, the cost of entry is very low - the most expensive single component is probably the game disc, not even the console!

He might not fit in, but he's awesome to play. Best ranged game of any character, plus an excellent up-B.

As long as you're not looking to get wavebirds that is.

My friends and I never had trouble making do with four regular GameCube controllers back when I had one. We didn't even have any controller extension cords.

I'm a hardcore player. Been to over 40 Melee tourneys and about 20 Brawl tourneys. I love both games to death, but currently prefer Brawl. Largely because it's fresh. The Brawl competitive scene is significantly larger than Melee's ever was.

I gave up on the game.

Shit was so slow could not hold my attention.

Brawl was ok, but lost my attention pretty fast. This was something that Melee didn't do.

I never played the N64 Smash Bros, but Melee is better than Brawl in my opinion. The main thing I was looking forward to in Brawl was online. The online is horrible. No ideal if it got better, but I couldn't stand the lag and long waits when I was playing it. Didn't have this problem with Mario Kart Wii.

I almost feel the same way.
I play Brawl, and after a few matches I'm completely bored and move on to do something else.
I played Melee for 4hrs straight this weekend with my best friend and it was fun.

I also don't like the fact that they crapped some of my favorite characters in Brawl.
Ganon is pretty much a dud there. His power attacks B moves suck in this game.

Link, Falco, and Ganon for life.

Combat is not as fun, but it's more accessible and balanced.
Game has been slowed down to the point where it basically needs items to make it fun.

I don't mind that most of the so called 'advanced' techniques of melee (exploiting glitches in the game mechanics) have been removed though. There's much more variety in the brawl competitive scene because of that and the improved balance.

Wah? The original was definitely the slowest and melee was the fastest. Brawl is closer to the original in terms of speed, though characters are way more floaty and able to recover.
