super slocket 3

i have a super slocket 3 with a celeron 1.gig cpu, it wont boot or nothing. please help

Start with the basics:

1. Do you know your power supply is good?

2. Do you get any boot up screen or beep codes?

3. Do you know your motherboard is good?

4. Do you know your CPU is good?

5. Do you know your vid card and RAM are good and inserted well. Try re-inserting both of them.

We would need a lot more info about your system, what symptoms it shows, and what you have already tried to help.

No matter how "super" the slocket, the board's voltage regulators and BIOS must still support the kind of CPU you plug in. Is that Celeron an FCPGA "Coppermine" (128 KB cache) or the later FCPGA2 "Tualatin" (256 KB)? The latter ones are supported by very very few slot-1 mainboards.

Not necessarily. The Slot-T works wonders on my Asus P3V4X. The bios has no clue as to what a Tualatin is, but the setup runs o/c at 1.46 GHz.

To answer the question of wolvie7, we first really need to know more information.

- Did this motherboard work before using a super slocket 3 with a celeron 1.gig cpu?

- What motherboard are you using?

- Is it giving you any beep codes?

etc.

motherboard works fine with pentium 2 cpu, how do i know if i acually do have a celeron cpu, the one i ordered was fcpga, i think, it does nothing no beeps, just turns on.

It looks like the super slocket 3 does NOT support a Tualatin CPU. This converter does.

Now, how do you tell if it is a Tualatin vs a Coppermine core? The coppermine core (FPGA - socket 370) went up to 1100 MHz. The Tualatin core (FPGA2 - socket 370) went from 1000 MHz up to 1400 MHz. If it has an integrated heatspreader (aluminum square with a hole in it) , or if it has 256K of cache, then it is a Tualatin celeron processor.

It is not a tualatin.

My next thoughts are :

1) Is the heatsink attached correctly to the CPU? If it is not making good contact, then the CPU can heat up and refuse to boot.

2) Is the CPU die chipped? Before integrated heatspreaders this was a common problem. A person would put a heatsink on incorrectly and accidently chip the CPU killing it.

3) Is the CPU seated correctly in the socket? Any bent pins?

4) The CPU may simply be bad. Return it under its warranty and get a new one.
