i've currently got a D700@936, and a cheapy £5 hsf from a puter fair. i want something a little beefier to keep it cool, cos it reaches 55C when running seti@home, and about 33-35C idle.

i've narrowed it down to the Super Orb and FOP32-1, but i'm stuck as to which to get. i want it reasonably quite, cos it's in my bedrrom and i'll prob have it on 24/7, but still running cool.

there's only £2 difference in price, so that doesn't make a difference!

Defenatly the FOP32-1! Will keep it way cooler then the super orb. As for noise some people say it's not load others say it's load. I've never had personal experince with it though, but my alpha pal6035 with the ys-tech 27.2cfm fan on it is pretty load and it vibrates a lot.

It's all relative. I have several 80 & 92 mm. fans & a 120 mm. fan in my case. I can hardly hear the FOP32-1 in comparison to any of the others, which are much louder. But it is a little louder than a Panaflo, which is what I'm going to switch to one of these days.

I don't think the Super Orb will fit on the KT7 without bending capacitors and/or filing down fins for clearance.....
No real fan options except disconnecting one of them......?

The FOP32-1 will definately fit as is,....I have one on my KT7-R.
The cool thing about the FOP32-1 or 38 is that you can always change/replace the fan to allow additional cooling or quieter running.......

There is also the Taisol CGK 742902......harder to find right now but comes w/a really large hsf with a unique retaining clip and quieter fan.
It will also fit the KT7...!

My FOP-32 on my Duron 800 system stays about 35C idle and about 39C after running 3d Mark 2000. And I am using radio Shiak grease.

I am running a FOP32-1 right now on my MSI K7T Pro2-A with a 1Ghz Tbird. This is a great cooler, and it ain't loud at all to me. I had a FOP-38 in there before the FOP32-1 and that thing was ridiculous, it literally sounds like a freakin' hair dryer. I am very happy with my FOP32-1, and if you have a KT7 I would suggest it over the Super Orb since I would not want to have to bend capacitors just to fit a heatsink.

Clumsum, the problem with my FOP32-1 was that the edge of the HSF was not fitting over the edge of the socket. I fixed it though, after a lot of swaring and cursing at GlobalWin for not making a longer clip! Works very well now!

I have the SuperORB on my 900mhz Athlon Tbird (o'clocked to 1ghz) on an Abit KT7 (NON-raid) mb...fairly quiet (quieter than a std power supply) and NEVER gets warm.

In fact if I had to do it over I'd just get the chrome orb (same thing, just one fan though) since it does such a badass job of cooling.

I did NOT have to bend capacitors or anything to get it to fit perfectly on my KT7 motherboard, btw.

Liquidity,
I know there are two versions of the Chrome Orb, one is slightly skinnier than the other and will fit the KT7.......
Could be the same thing applies to the Super Orb.......or maby they are all the smaller dia version.........?

However, I would definately recommend the Super Orb over the Chrome Orb............the cooling difference is not even close!
The heatsink itself is much taller on the S-Orb.
Plus the KT7 has two fan headers for the cpu........very handy when using the S-Orb........
