Super Noob Wep Page Maker?

Hi, I have no HTML experience whatsoever and I'd like to build a website, is there good software out there for me?

Hey now I don't need to make another new thread, this is basically what my title would of been - I'll try those out. I'm also horrible with HTML and all the web design stuff. I've always been computer savvy, just never been any good with making web pages. I assume I'm still going to have to know a little bit though. Thanks for the links.

Another vote for nvu.

I use it at work, and it does it well enough.

Hrm...actually these programs don't seem too newb friendly, not at all =/ - I'm desperately searching for a 'fill' kind of tool so I can change colors of the page. Either of those programs have a bucket o' paint type tool? That would help a lot. It doesn't want me to change background/border colors.

Thats why I still say you need to know basic HTML tagging; what does what.. etc..

Once you gain an understanding of basic HTML, you'll understand the design programs a little better and how to use them.

Dreamweaver, Nvu and other programs are NOT a replacement for not knowing HTML.

This is the basic HTML that changes the colors or image used for the body of the page.

That's the best there is. You basically have 2 choices - learn the program properly, or learn HTML and CSS.

As far as computer languages go they're not difficult at all, and will provide you much more control over the page than the program alone, so I would recommend that route.

I understand some basic HTML knowledge is required, but the programs suggested (besides google's page creator) don't seem to be beginner friendly at all and assume you know what you're doing. I figure there's probably web page programs that are more beginner friendly out there. But, I'll manage. Nvu seemed to just stop working...maybe I left it on too long or something. I left it up while I was sleeping - Guess I'll have to try Evrsoft, or maybe I'll use google's. I still think a fill type tool would be really helpful.

What is a "fill type" tool? Almost every program, including all the ones listed here, allow you to change the colors for various things without knowing any HTML. As someone else suggested, you need to either learn to use one of the programs or learn HTML.

It's that tool that fills a selected area with a certain color. Like if I made a square shape and wanted to make the square red, I would use the fill tool, rather than drawing it all in.

Web page creators work more like Microsoft Word than Paint. If you want to change the background color, you'll have to dig through the menus to set the element properties.

HTML is super easy, it's not even a programming language, just a markup language. Just spend a little while learning the simple elements and you're set. If teenage girls could do it in the late 90's, you can too!

the Rev. 4.79 of Netscape Navigator has a decent web editor.

i don't know what web editing the current rev. has. it used
to be called Netscape Composer.

free. used to be, at least.

iWeb is the easiest program I've ever used. But that is only until you decide you want to do something 'advanced' like add an rss feed, or custom javascript.

Dreamweaver is a commercial webpage maker, but this guide should work pretty well for NVU, but maybe someone could suggest a short starter guide specifically for NVU
