Hi guys

I'm trying to decide on a case for A64 S939, I dont goto lan parties, but I do move around a lot

I'm only planning to OC the 2Ghz 3200+ to a 2.4G ish, not too much, cuz i still need some peace and quiet in the room :)

planning to get a Abit AV8, and a zalman 7700 if possible.

So here is my problem, the Antec super lanboy looks nice and its like 40 bucks chaper than the lanfire, but would it fit a zalman 7700??? that thing its pretty huge and lanboy is a mini tower....

Also how does the ventalation of the 2 case compare, and also noise level??

Any input is welcome, thx guys

Mid tower, actually. Or if they're calling it a mini-tower it's about the same size as a Mid-Tower I purchased in 2001.

I just got a Super Lanboy and I really like the airflow. I'm doing a minor overclock (2600+ mobile at 2Ghz) and plan to do more as I obviously have room with my temps as low as they are. My one small problem was that the fit between the top of the board (and the HS) and the power supply led to my fan not fitting properly on my heatsink. (I'm using a Thermalright SLK-947u.) The heatsink fit, the fan fit, but the clips the heatsink uses to attatch the fan ended up pressing against the PSU (which caused weird instability in my system.) My guess would be that the Zalman with the 92mm fan would fit, but the 120mm one would not--of course the 120mm one isn't for socket A.

if you want something like the lanfire just find an aluminum chieftec dragon for half the price. you don't get all the bling but do you really want that? thermaltake makes some of the ugliest cases i've ever seen.

I think the fireball on lan fire is ugly too, i'll probably put a big sticker over it or something

I do think the temperature display is very useful and the fan controllers. The chieftec dragon cases arent that cheap... and they look like one of those no frill cases, dont get much of anything with it...

so guess the lanboy is the way to go eh.... too bad the 7700 wont fit :(

anyway thanks a lot guys

oh btw, any noise complaints from the lanboy owners??? are the 120mm fans annoying at all?

mine aren't, but the rear has been replaced with a blue antec led fan. i'm thinking of going to panaflo fans, but only because i want more cfm without an increase in noise.

2x120mm fans is rocking, they spin nice and slow so no way is noise an issue. Going from my old case to the antec I actually had to buy a new hsf because the old one was deafening compared to the antec's fans lol.

And ive done a lotta careful lookin at the zalman hsf's, I doubt the 7700 will fit inside the Antec, its only got a 0.5 inch or so between the top of mb and bottom of psu. Ive got a 7000al-cu with BLUE LED fan on the way for me :D mucho cool in this case.

Oh yea, make sure you want that Abit board...I threw it out as an option because the 20pin and 12pin connectors are gonna cross over the hsf and sit right in front of the rear 120mm fan. ghey.

so the power cables are going to get in the way with the abit AV8 + lanboy + zalman 7000 combination?? or will other mobos have the same problemm too?

I'm looking at some other boards too, like MSI neo2-f and neo2-fir, anyone know the difference btw the 2?? I read they wont go as high in HTT, but they r a lil cheaper, and I dont play to OC hell of a lot anyway

Thx

The fans are super-quiet. Like Boatillo, I had to hook my CPU fan to a controller to make is as quiet as my case, I did not realize it was so LOUD!

I LOVE the airflow and the design of the case. Kind of a tight fit, but enough room for me.

The 20 and 12pin connectors on the Abit don't prohibit you from using this combo, but they sit RIGHT in front of the rear case fan and in imo thats a bad idea to obstruct that area with silly wires.

Look at pics of the asus, msi, or soltek boards and you'll see they put the 20pin power connector as far as possible onto the edge of the board that interfers the least with air flow (middle to upper right corner).

thx Boatillo for that piece of info

so guess i'll consider the msi neo2-f, its cheaper than the abit too...
I dont think it will OC as high, but do u know if it would go up to 240-250mhz range??

also is there any significant feature loss with the neo2f??

thx a lot man

Not any real loss between abit av8 or the msi k8n's, since both use VIA chipsets.

From what I've read you may also consider the Soltek 939 board, and the Epox overclocks a ton and is cheap ($95 or so at mwave.com) but I think I remember the 20 pin being in a bad place on the Epox too, maybe not. Check them all out, most of the board imo are pretty similar except in color and layout :)

yeah, i heard good things about epox and soltek

but i live in canada :(
selections isnt that great, i dont see many epox around here, and soltek via board is a lil more than the neo2-f
most of the online stores here rip u off, cheapest mobo in local store is the msi neo2-f which is like 124cdn... about 100usd

so if that can take me to 240-250 htt, i'm happy with that thx dude
