This will be a very hot deal if they ever get the software working well. According to PC Magazine, this software looks like a very bad buy right now and will probably make your Internet experience worse, not better. Here is what PC Magazine has to say about this version of McAfee Internet Security:

"Reliability is also a major concern. Under Windows XP, McAfee's security component crashed when we chose not to reboot the system after installing, but ran smoothly after we rebooted. Under Windows Me, installation went well, but we were unable to access the Internet after closing Internet Explorer and starting Netscape with all of Internet Security 4.0's features running, so we had to reboot. Under Windows 98, installation produced a cascade of crashes, the program was unable to access its update site, and the system became unusable after twenty minutes of heavy Internet use. McAfee promises a downloadable bug fix by the time you read this."

McAfee Internet Security 4.0: Strong Security, Fragile Software, PC Magazine, July 9, 2002. The last patch for the software was posted on October 1, 2001.

Sorry if I am thread-crapping. There is a lot to be said for this deal -- you could buy the software and not install it until a good patch comes out and I think you would have gotten a lot for your money. I think I will pass, though.

My Windows XP crashes ALL THE TIME (by rebooting by itself!). EVERY DAY (approx 2 times)!!.....Now I don't know if its XP or McAffee Firewall I have installed. Overall, I'm disappointed by this WHOLE software experience, since I can't figure out where the f*ck the errors are occurring!!!! :(

P.S. It must by XP b/c my Sony XP Laptop also crashes in the same way!!!
