Hope this isn't a repost, but according to my Chase credit card bill, Shell will no longer be participating in the 5% rebate for the Chase credit card... What a bummer.

Hope the mods don't lock this because I'm sure lots of people have this card...

Furthermore, I wonder if there's anything out there similiar...

That's a Joan Collins special.
I want Texaco back. The shell logo is very ugly.

I assume they'll still have the 1% on anything you buy going towards Shell gasoline?

Well...the moment they stop the 5% shell gas, my account will be closed. After all these years, this is what they do to their loyal card members?

I cancelled mines recently because you don't really save on gas considering you usually pay 4-5% more for shell gas compared to other brands.

I doubt it. Chase seems to have declared breaking the affiliation with Shell as of Febuary 2003...

They did mention some new "wonderful" rebate options for current cardholders... We'll see. Meanwhile let's see if anyone else will step up with a 5% rebate...

Shell may regret this because I see a significant dropoff in their customer base after this happens.

Looks like I'm going to have to quit Shell 2/03 then.

Let's get a list of gas companies that have good deals like this. Is mobil the only one?

Amoco/bp 5% gas, 2% everything else. $60 per year maximum.
Recently they changed the rule that the rebate only comes in $20 gas card.
Since then, I cloased my Amoco card, and stick to Shell. :-(

Well it wasnt much of a deal anyhow, at least not here in northern california as the shell gas was ALWAYS more than 5% more expensive than other stations.

Further, they used to offer free car washes with a fill up and all the stations around here recently installed new car wash "systems" and the freebies are out the window.

I cancelled my shell card about 3 years ago because twice they received my payment a day or two late and suspended the card, which I discovered when I went to use it to check into a hotel room. Bear in mind I have nearly perfect credit and had been a customer of theirs for a number of years, charging 25-30k a year and almost always paying the balance off monthly. When I called to find out what happened they said "oh, your payment was a day late but I see we have it now so you'll be able to use your card again in a day or two". After confirming this was their standard customer handling procedure I let them know not to go to the trouble of reactivating the card, that they'd be receiving it in many, many pieces.

Costco and Sams club gas ever since. At least 10c cheaper than even the cheapie stations.

Buh Bye Shell.

wow, good thing i noticed this...i usually don't even open my mailed statements cuz i just get it online.
this has been my primary CC for over two years. now i'll have to find another if they don't get a good new rebate program. My favorite thing about this card is that you get the rebate taken directly off of next month's statement (if you buy gas) as opposed to most other programs where you have to accumulate a certain amount.

here in chicago, shell gas is actually cheaper than BP/Amoco or Mobil most of the time. I spend from $100 to $150 a month on gas and the 5% rebate has been great for me. I've earned $511 of free gas since i've had the card. Not a bad deal at all.
They'll be losing a customer if they don't come up with a similar offer soon. I guess i'll have to check out the BP/Amoco card. not as good of a deal (3%/1%), but still better than nothing.

Anyone else know of any other good cash back type cards? I do like my discover, but it has it's disadvantages, this card was the best. oh well...

I was interested in getting this credit card, but saw this old thread. I'd rather not just get the Exxon 3% card because there are mostly Shell stations where I live. I just found this on Shell's site link
An Important Note About The Shell Master Card:
Shell is committed to its industry-leading rebate and will continue to offer the same value proposition beginning the first quarter 2003 to new card applicants. For updated information, please check back with us online in late January 2003. Thank you for your interest.

i wonder what this means..are they gonna still offer the rebate themselves, instead of through Chase?

Sounds like Shell is dropping Chase as their credit card provider, and isn't able to migrate their credit card customer base over to their new provider.
This sucks, as I just signed up for the Shell Chase card half a year ago. Can't be good for my credit score if I cancel this card so soon and sign up for another one.

Here is what I found on Shells website after clicking on "Shell MasterCard" link

So, there might be some hope for shell, yet.
