Super-General Questions about AMD

I've been buying Intel since the beginning of time. My main concern in the past : I'm into pro audio, and 'most' if not all pro audio boards specifically say they do not support AMD hardware, even today. A client of mine wants an AMD system (non-pro audio) due to the fact that it is so much cheaper, the reviews show a speedier performance, and the P4's don't seem up to snuff until SDRAM boards are out.

I'd just like to start a general thread concerning what is and is not compatible with the latest AMD boards and chips. As an example, I've heard of problems using SB Lives on AMD's latest stuff. I'm assuming tho, that in almost any problem there is a work around.

Another example would be the problems I had read concerning certain nvidia cards in Apollo boards. Is this still a factor?

Just curious - again, I'm only questioning about the latest hardweare - thunderbirds, durons, 266mhz boards and up. Leading me to a big FAQ or other website would be great.

the 636B Southbridge/SB Live! problem is fixed with the latest 4-in-1 Drivers.

What Pro Audio boards are you talking about?

VIA does not make an Apollo-based AMD system for the Duron/T-bird. It is a non-issue. See chipset specs.

And yeah, what is a "pro audio" board?

Ive never heard of any problem with the kx133/kt133/kt266/760 chipsets. I even have a Live! and ive never had any of the problems other have been reporting. The heardware is compatible with anything that will run in an Intel system. I dont see why professional sound hardware would not run. Oh yea and there are via chipsets for Intel cpu's too and you never mentioned that the hardware has problems with any chipsets. All of the amd problem are either chipset related or user related.
