regarding airbags: airbags are only dangerous if you drive so close to the wheel that they hit you while inflating. if you sit that close, chances are you either have a poor driving position or aren't tall enough to see over the wheel. otherwise, your head hits an already inflated pillow -- much nicer than a window or steering wheel. of course, you don't want your child seat up there. but the front seat isn't the safest place for child seats anyway...

Well, maybe Yakko is a 5 foot tall woman who has to sit very close on the wheel 😛

The srt-4 would spank it atleast in the straights without the 3k in mods.

Very true. I'd still rather have the Cooper S though and not look like some kid ricer 😛

Hate to say this but they are both quite ugly and atleast on the srt-4 you can remove the spoiler and make it slightly less ugly 😉.

Remove the wing, and it looks like a Enterprise Rental Car Neon with some rims on it and a bad nose job😛

At least it looks like a real car 😛 I've always thought the Mini looked like a toy car straight off the die-cast production line.

The Mini is a 50 year old classic design; the Neon looks like Blah! 😛

First it is yakko dammit!!!! Second since I usually have at least one hand on the wheel that is where the injury would come in. I have seen people with some nasty bruises and burns on their arms from the airbags.

Y@KK0, bruising or a light burn on the arm is better than a concussion or other serious head trauma in my book in a frontal crash. And I'd rather have my side airbag protect me instead of having my arm broken/crushed in a side impact crash.

Manufacturers aren't putting expensive safety devices in their cars for no reason at all. They help to save lives and lesson injuries in crashes.

Well, turbocars are easier to mess with than blown cars usually. And about the exterior of the SRT being fugly... like GDB WRX owners say... You can't see the exterior of the car from behind the wheel 😀

SRT4 has more room, but I doubt people in the performance segment are terribly worried about that.

I just wonder if Cooper dealerships will sell the package without installation. Doesn't the Works Cooper keep a factory warranty as well? But then so does a Mopar modded SRT.

word. i'd rather get air bag burns than take a chance on being impaled on a steering column.

Actually they are putting most of them in because they are government mandated. I think the best way to save lives would be to put a four inch metal spike in the center of the wheel. People would learn how to drive better real quick. People are becoming to complacent when they drive because they have less fear of getting killed thanks to all the safety features. A McLaren F1 has no airbag and there have been people who have crashed in excess of 175 mph and walked away.

And the government is mandating them b/c??????????????????

They look pretty??? Of course not

Also, a McLaren F1 costs $1,000,000+ with a structure made of a carbon fiber tub. Hardly a comparison to a $20,000 steel unibody Mini Cooper S or even a $120,000 aluminum monocoque Ferrari 360 Modena.

I saw a metallic blue cooper s on the freeway... I was set on getting this car for sure... then I kinda weened away.. now I want one after seeing that blue one it looked sweet

So b/c some people can't drive, we should all be placed at risk? I'm sorry, but that doesn't make any f*&king sense.

That's like saying that officers shouldn't wear bullet proof vests b/c criminals shouldn't be stupid enough to shoot at a cop. Hey in a perfect world, that WOULD be the case, but this is FAR from a perfect world.
