I just got a Dell notebook (and am considering returning it to get a better one). Their 30 day satisfaction guarantee is awesome!

However, the GeForce2Go is no longer the "hottest" video card . . . the 64MB Mobility Radeon 7500 is now out for the higher end Inspirons (if you want the ultimate in video card/notebook performance).

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Dell's refurbished laptops, they do come with the same warranties as new ones. My husband's company has ordered several of these with nary a problem.

Tonymil I still dont see how you scored that deal...... if what you say is true I want the same exact thing you have TODAY and Ill freakin call DELL and buy with my credit card. Ive been jacking around with those same specs and I cant come close to what you have for that price. Also what warranty option did you get?

Airdale 30 - my selection was one of the laptops listed on the outlet. The hardest part about finding a great deal on a refurb like this is that you can't configure the machines - you have to read through EACH ONE to determine if it has what you want. In this case, I was having a hard time deciding what features I wanted - after reading through the details on about 200 laptops (by service tag) I finally decided to take the one I listed. There were a few others that were also appealing in the $1700 range, but I decided to spend the extra ~$100 for the CDRW.

Also, remember that the discount jumps $100 as you cross the $2100 mark. This leads to the possibility that a better laptop can be cheaper. Example:
Model #1 System Price $2099 - $300 - $50 = $1749 Discounted Price.
Model #2 System Price $2100 - $400 - $50 = $1650 Discounted Price.

The reality is, with a deal like this, it is hit or miss - and the earlier you look, the better your chances of a hot deal.

Hey Gang,

NOTE:

The comparison of the outlet price and a new price "may" be accurate if you take into account that when you buy a new system that is pre-configured that they usually add an extra battery, an extra CD-rom, a laptop bag and countless other things that raise the price. I've found that the outlet price is only about $200 cheaper than the new price is you "strip" down the new laptop configuration and on some days the new systems are cheaper (all depends on the promotions that they are running). All being said, the $400 off still is a good deal but it ISN'T a $1000 difference by any means.

Nino - all I can say is go configure it, but I was pretty careful to keep them even. In general, the refurb discount is sliding ($100 or so on the low end models, and $300-$400 on the high end models). That $300-$400 refurb discount + $450 sale discount = $750-$850 discount total, which is darn near $1000.

I just configured it new again, and with the current "free DVD upgrade" they are running, the new price is $2735. You get a free nylon case with the new one, and a free printer with the refurb - so the "freebies" are about even. And yes, I even downgraded the warranty on the new model to match the refurb - 1 year on both.

So it is only a $918 savings - I can live with that.

Not bad, tubs. I was struggling over whether to go for more RAM and CPU - in the end I did. After all, what's a few hundred more?

When I submitted my order, I looked at how many they had - about 270. Today - less than $50. Guess the sale did the trick.

According to Dell, my system will ship by 12/14. Can't wait - I just hope they get it to me before I leave for vacation on 12/21...
