they say bare drive, well, what else do we need? I don't need the softwere, but they give it to you anywaysssss. And does anyone else have this drive, what's it like. What is the return policy for this website? Plus, how much is shipping?

Not to rain in on anyone's parade but why get this when you can get the highly rated Plextor 8x/4x/32x retail kit complete with internal CD-R/W drive, software, etc. and toss in free shipping?

"Yeah but how much more is it going to cost me"? You ask.

"Only $18 more" I reply with a smirk.

$199
-$25 off $200 Onvia.com coupon (click my e-mail below for the coupon)
-10% PC reimbursement
-FREE shipping
-----------------------
$156.60

So if you can live with paying $18 more then make the smart choice and get the Plextor 8x/4x/32x

That is no Panasonic. I have a Panasonic right next to me and it is not the same. All Panasonic drives I have seen except the DVD-RAM look exactly the same. I used to have trouble with Goldstar 8X CD-ROMs.

I have the plex drive...believe me when I say I have never heard a bad thing about it. In my esteemed opinion, it's the best drive out there. However, I really don't know $hit about the competition.

By the way, "only a 2 meg buffer" is absolutely plenty if your computer is of any reasonable speed at all.

For what it's worth.

Many of the high end drives have a 2 meg buffer. Mine has 4 megs, and I've never seen it use more than 1 meg of that during a burn.
