Super Bowl "Rip-Off" ...

dfuze

Lifer
I just had to get this off my chest. I live in north-central Connecticut. Besides being a fan of the sport overall, I follow the Giants, Patriots, and Packers very closely. My gripe is the rip off that my teams will never host a Super Bowl unless they build a dome! WTF? If they are good enough, a team may have to battle through frozen Lambau Field (ok, not this year, but stay with me lol), but they will always play the game in a warm, sunny location, no matter who the teams with the best record are in the game just to maximize profits. It's not like people won't go to a game if it's cold and snowy, just look at Soldier's Field every Sunday!

in a cold ass city - the amount of people that visit a city for a superbowl and actually attend the game vs the amount of people that visit the city just for the environment - would cause a massive case of shrinkage... of people

Lambau just isn't equipped to handle the SB crowd...sorry. why would anyone want to go up there in Feb and freeze their @sses off when they could be partying in Miami?

If you went to Soldier's field last Sunday you were the only one. 😛

Who in their right minds wants to go and spend several days in Green Bay, NY, or Boston during Feb?

I'm sure the fans that already live in and around the cities would go. Heck, they are there every week as it is.

Because you should eliminate weather as a factor when playing the SB. Playing in the snow could be a definite advantage to a team that's used to it.

Too bad thats nothing compared to the amount of people and money that come to a superbowl.

I would enjoy seeing a superbowl played in the snow though.

Yeh, because Detroit is totally the sunny mecca of the US in February.

But if you eliminate weather for that, then what about any game? Any home team can have an advantage. Buffalo is used to the wind. Green Bay is used to the cold. Denver is used to the altitude. Miami the heat (when you have all those pads on).

Dolphins Stadium is not a dome. It can rain in Miami. Rain affects the the passing game a great deal and could leave Indy at a huge disadvantage.

Maybe not but it has got a dome. I can't imagine watching a Super Bowl up here without a dome.

I agree but the odds of it raining in Miami are smaller than it being cold in GB or Chi in February. Most teams have played in rain but snow is a different animal.

You'd be suprised. The torching of random abandoned buildings really warms up the area.

😛

you are eliminating the weather as a factor because it is the final playoff game and a test as to which of the two teams that has made it really is the best. Not that the other playoff games are less important but the superbowl is about skill and not home field advantage, home crowd advantage, or any advantage other than skill.

I'd agree with the post as to the attendance being lower in the colder areas. A dome wouldnt really help in my opinion, it's the tailgating and the atmosphere that brings quite a few people to the city where the superbowl is being held (other than those that have tickets to the game)

Someone forgot to tell that to Miami

FYI, one big reason is the halftime spectacle. Can't set up and tear down a massive stage with lighting, etc. for Prince in snow or ice. Rain is a problem, but I'm betting it's easier to figure out than snow/ice.

I have to admit, I didn't think of this. Probably because I always change the channel at halftime. 😀

This is what is absurd. The team probably made the playoffs and progressed through to the super bowl because of it. Why rob them of it when they need it the most?

On top of that, it gives teams from the South an undue advantage since their players have been playing in the heat and humidity all year long. this is espeically wrong if they wouldn't have had home field advantage in the first place.

I like the idea of a neutral site, and I don't mind them making them all have to be played in good weather (as much as it can be controlled). However, what would the NFL do if a team actually got to the super bowl the year their city was hosting? Although this hasn't happened yet (to my knowledge), it does give those teams whose cities can host it an advantage (if they get lucky).

But you haven't eliminated the weather. The Southern teams have a huge advantage since they have been playing in the heat and humidity all season long.

As we all know...they can't really "party" next to the field 😛
