This is pretty cool. Scientists are working on a bacteria that might "eat" CO2 gas thus preventing the greenhouse effect. Read more here Super Bacteria

It could work too good and eat the atmosphere.

One point brought up at slash dot was that splitting the carbon and oxygen isnt the problem, but actually what to do with the carbon once it is split. Oxygen will be reused carbon will build up on something.

They already have organisms that "eat" CO2, they are called plants. Plant a tree.
