I have an Alienware M11x R2 laptop.
It has, like many laptops, a function + F-key combination that adjusts the screen brightness. Recently this just stopped working.
When I hit it, the slider appears but will not change in response to keyboard inputs. I can alter brightness using the Windows control panel, but not the keyboard hotkeys.
I tried reinstalling older drivers for the Intel card, then newer drivers for it. No effect. Entering and existing sleep (and reboots) have no effect.
I have not attempted to change drivers for the Nvidia discrete card, but from what I can it can have no bearing on the matter, since Optimus keeps it inactive all the times I've been trying to adjust the brightness (e.g., no game is active).
I did do a bunch of Windows 7 updates, but none seem relevant to screen brightness.
Anyone else seen this phenomenon? Super effing annoying.
