Sunshine ruins paint?

So I bought a new bike and it's parked in direct Sun daily. So I put a cover on it. Will that help or its useless?

You know from destroying the paint. Thanks in advance.

Yes it does, but driving also ruins tires. I'd be more concerned about constant exposure to rain causing rust spots on the bike. Many of us have cars that have spent years outside and the paint looks fine.

Will putting bike cover on it gonna help, even a bit? 😕

Edit - I live in India. Sun rays are pretty hot in this region.

It will help. Not only the paint, but your leather/plastics/rubbers will also wear down under the sun over the years.

It also helps to keep it from being burning hot to the touch when you get on for a ride. Putting the cover on and taking it off all the time can be a hassle though. Up to you to decide if it is worth the hassle.

What bikes come with leather on them anywhere these days?

Yes, a cover will help keep the bike from the harmful rays of the sun. Keep the paint clean and wax it periodically too, that will also help keep it looking nice for a longer period of time.

I know some of the older Harley's still had leather seats and there is plenty of leather aftermarket and options. I have no idea what kind of bike the OP has.

Just make sure that the cover does not flap in the wind. I've seen many bikes which were stored outside with a cover and it flapped in the wind all winter leaving marks on the bike.

Yep. No point in trading UV damage for abrasion damage.

OP, if you are in a tropical latitude, then the UV can be quite aggressive. Things like atmospheric conditions can also affect how much UV hits the paint, but in the end, ultraviolet rays will speed up decay of pretty much anything.

So covering up the bike is better than nothing at all. I want to make sure the bike looks good for a long time, provided proper care(washing, polish, etc).
