Sunrocket VOIP service outtage acrossed America???

OK, so just a couple weeks in and now I've tasted my first VOIP "outtage". (Uh oh) 😕

Others are posting reports of outtage acrossed the country in the 'Hot Deals' thread so I figured I'd post here if anyone wants to share reports. (UPDATE: Website confirms outtages *after* you've logged in)

My first report was my 6yr old telling me she couldn't call her friend. I assumed she just botched dialing or something. Nope..............wife confirmed. We were even getting a dial tone for a while, but nothing happened when you'd dial.

Well, when I picked up the phone it was complete silence. The 'Gizmo' confirmed that there was no connection established with sunrocket. So I rebooted everything and it appears I've established a dial tone again, but same as before. You can dial..........but there's noooooooooobody hoooooooooooooooooooome!! 😉

(Is it *still* worth the $13/mo. on the smokin' 2yr deal???)

I couldn't think of the *best* answers to provide for poll so let me know if it needs another answer.

i only recommend VoIP to people with a backup, like a cell phone
nobody should use it without alternate comms

there is nothing wrong with the website

Thats why Im loyal to SBC / ATT. Outages only once or twice a decade, if even that.

No voip for me! Nope, no way.

I agree here!! I wouldn't have even CONSIDERED voip w/o a backup. (SR, Vonage or otherwise).

BUT.............I do think there's still a consideration for "incoming" calls.

Example:

Sure your dear mother has your home and cell #, but what about that person from the local book club who's depending on you to bring the cookies for the next meeting??

What do you expect?

You get what you pay for in life.

It is impossible to have a service that has the quality and reliability of a hard line via VoIP unless the call is under the same administrative control of a single IP carrier. This isn't news or any revelation of the technology. Service quality problems are to be expected.

At that price I would expect it to go down several times a month for a few minutes to a few hours at a time. If this is your only phone at home with a 6 year old daughter you may want to reconsider your options if an emergency happens or your broadband goes down for an enexpected period of time. My parents live about 20 miles outside New Orleans and when Katrina came and screwed up everything their land line was still working after the storm passed. Cell phones worked intermittently as many of the towers were damaged or destroyed.

POTS is designed to withstand emergencies, VOIP is not.

When the data networks were initially designed, nobody ever thought we would run real time applications through it such as a phone conversations. As the data network evolve more and more, eventually stability and reliability will be closer to the quality of the voice network, as we are currently in the a time of transition of moving all voice platforms into packet switching based networks.
