I use a Sun monitor on my system (Sun GDM 20E20 Sony) which is a Sony Trinitron 20" with 18" viewable. There are 3 Sun branded (SONY) monitors that I know of that are multisync:
365-1335 New Multisync 20" Premium monitor (Sony Model GDM 20E20)
365-1338 New Multisync 17" Premium monitor (Sony Model GDM 17E20)
365-1343 New Multisync 17" Entry level monitor, and I think the rest are Fixed Freq. If it is FixFreq you will need a fixed feq Vga adapter. The Sun uses a 13W3 adapter, and to use it on a PC you need a 13W3 (female) - HD15 (male) adapter.
I went through this about 6 months ago, so I included the links of info that I found on these monitors.

Where to buy adapters:http://www.creative-s.com/ http://www.reputable.com/sgilist.html#monitors http://store.yahoo.com/pcsound/755660.html http://www.si87.com (Software Integrators)
Software Integrators is where I got the one I'm useing, it was $40. delivered 2 days,(Part# Adapter A2: 15 pin M VGA to 13W3 F) and it is the same one that Sun sells.
If the one you have is the 20E20 it will do 100mhz @1024x768, and 1600x1200 @ 85mhz. use Win98 Sony profile for 20se multiscan.
I have the detail spec sheet if you need it on this monitor..and its a great monitor especily when you can find them for 75-100 bucks. Mine was a trade out for systems work..🙂
Here is the adapter link at Software Integrators, it seems that they changed the product code: (Adapter 7012: M VGA to 13W3 F) http://www.si87.com/www_store/merchant.mv?Product_Code=7012&SCREEN=PROD
