I've got a pretty nice looking sun monitor that's been sitting on my shelf for like 3 years. Everyone always told me that a converter to get it to run with my PC hardware would be like $100+, but i've recently heard differently. Is there an easy way to get this monitor to work with my VGA output from my PC? I have a Sun GDM-17E20.

Is this monitor even worth it? Or am I better off getting a used $40 POS?

Thanks

Unlike earlier models, which were fixed-frequency monitors that can't be used as a primary monitor on a PC but do an excellent job as secondaries, later Sun monitors are just plain ordinary multi-frequency monitors.

31 kHz standard VGA mode is covered, the 85 kHz horizontal scan rate limit takes you up to 1280x960 at 85 Hz. The above site links to places that sell the required adapter or cable from VGA to Sun's proprietary jack, which appear to be $30 to $50. That's still a bargain deal for an excellent 17" CRT.
