Sun is a big name, though. Believe it or not, there are people even in the *nix world who buy products simply because of the name instead of functionality. I'm not sure... I actually have only worked with SS so I wouldn't know how they compare.

I've got open office installed right now. i install it for all my clients. it's awesome. i like it much better than star office. well the star office i tried that was like 2 yrs ago. i'm not sure how much they've improved it since.

open office has very good compatibility w/ MS Office. that works well.

For the normal user, there is absolutely no difference between OO and So6.0. I used the different builds of OO (641was the last one before I switched to OO 1.0) as well as SO 6.0 Beta and now SO 6.0 (I didnt have to pay a cent, thanks to my school's site licence!!)

The only difference I noticed was that SO has a lot more templates for Text/spreadsheets/Presentation.

OMG, do they think they have a chance at selling this suite?

YES. A lot of corporates would prefer to use SO since they have a support plan and coz M$ is showing us how lousy it can get.

Yeah, at least MS Office won't make a whole damn new desktop for you. I almost barfed when I saw that in staroffice.

It was a great idea that didn't implement well. I also ran it as the shell once but it was way too slow.
