Hello guys,

I have a small issue with my new sump pump. It is throwing a little water back from main discharge as show in the picture. This is Wayne 3/4 hp pump. not sure how to troubleshoot.

Thank you!

I can't tell what I'm looking at but it appears to be a leak at that joint to me. Does it discharge to atmosphere? Need to see an actual schematic.

Green circles are the one where I found leakage along the wall. I found wet on top green circle and wall when touched it.

it looks like it's going through another pipe/conduit, is the water coming out of that actual conduit? Could be the sump pipe is leaking into that conduit. The leak could also be coming from the foundation, it seems like a bad idea to put an underground penetration in the foundation like that. That's an oddball install. I guess if it went over the top it would risk freezing... I don't have a sump pump myself and don't know a lot of people here who do so not sure what is the proper way.

Another possibility is if it's only leaking after it stops, maybe it's a checkvalve issue. But given where it's leaking I don't think it's that.

Bad plumbing (joints) work there.
PVC joints require three steps: Cleaning, Priming, and Gluing.
The primer is dyed purple. There is no evidence of purple dye. This would fail inspection too!
A good joint is just as sturdy as a single piece of pipe. Even though this is technically a drain install vs. pressure, it's quite obvious with leaking joints that it wasn't done right.

It looks like its tapped into a larger drain where it goes through the wall as well. The check valve stops it from flowing back but sumps usually aren't plumbed like this.

It was not an issue before. This happened when I changed sump pump to increased horsepower from my old one. Old one was 1/3 hp and the new one is 3/4 hp. do you think that would be an issue? I will also check the check valve and replace with new one and see if that helps.

Thank you guys.. your feedback is very valuable.

No, I don't think an increase in HP would cause your issue, the poipe leaks or it doesn't. You have a leak.

My jurisdiction doesnt require purple primer.

Not all primer is dyed purple; they have clear primer. I know a few plumbers who dont use the purple primer as it looks sloppy.

Where does the water go? You should be able to see where the water is directed to like a drainage ditch along the road, etc. Make sure the water flows properly.

I'd redo that whole thing.
1. Cap the larger pipe.
2. Replace the check valve with a Quiet version.
3. Run a straight pipe all the way up to the ceiling and then angle downward on the way out of the house. (To prevent freezing)
