summer storage

I go to college at RIT, in Rochester, NY, and I am going home for the summer on friday. I have a bunch of stuff here that I want to put in storage as I don't see a point in bringing it home over the summer (computer equipment). A friend up here has a house and he is asking for $40-50 a week to store everything. Mind you, it is quite a bit of stuff, probably totalling 8'x5' most likely. Does that seem much? Would I be ripped off by accepting his offer for that price? I have no idea on pricing for storage in this area, and I can't find anything online.

Around here, a small mini-storage unit would probably cost that much per month.

Is there a home depot there? You can rent trucks from them for like $20/hr. Rent a truck and get a REAL storage facility.

For me to rent a secure, monitored locker from 12/15/02 to 6/15/03, it was about 300 for a 10x10.

Well, issue is also I don't have a license, please don't ask why, I'm 18 and don't have a license. lol, its a LONG story, so renting a truck also is out of the question.

WEll if you're 18, you may not be able to rent it anyway. Have any older friends?

Here in Ann Arbor, there's a pack and ship place that'll store a 4'x6' box for the whole summer (May-August) for $36 (I think that's the price, but I know it's damn cheap).

That'd be hilarious if we know each other, but yeah, I don't have many friends up here. Maybe 2, and one who I guess according to everyone is trying to rape me. But the other is gone already home. My parents also ditched me up here and expect me to get home, with all my things by myself so I'm screwed there too.

Everyone of my friends other than that one, is gone already, so that isn't an option.

smokey, you missed the storage fair at RIT a few weeks ago. There were 5 companies there. The two that I thought looked the best were simplystorage (http://www.isimplystorage.com) and campus storage (http://www.campusstorage.com). The campus storage website looks much better and professional but they won't answer my e-mail, but the people from simply storage were nicer and did answer my e-mail. Simply Storage wants $162 for about 15 cubic feet of my stuff, and they will pick it up on campus on thursday or friday.

There are also cheaper places, but you have to take your stuff there.

Hope this helps :)

oops, reread your message. Since you have a lot of stuff, you should try Store to door (http://www.storetodoor.com) They have the big crates you've probably seen in the parking lots around campus. It's $59 a month. However, you need to contact them ASAP because they have to schedule a delivery for the crate.
